The Challenge:
The establishment of a consumer Union Coop in Dubai was nothing but an idea that came to the minds of a small group of enthusiastic citizens who were keen on developing and serving their Community and country in the early 1980s. They all have one thing in common: they were committed to the common good and they shared the cooperative ideas as the solution to the shopping problems, namely the disparity between prices and the low service quality provided by retail commercial centers back then, along with the absence of national institutions in this field. Since those humble beginnings, Union Coop has grown into the largest cooperative society in the United Arab Emirates .

Union Coop wanted to avoid the limitations of conventional business management systems, like those used by other electronics distributors, so it resolved to implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that would improve its employees’ capabilities and enhance the customer experience. The company deployed Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to build an integrated and intuitive system, increase work efficiency, flexibility, and maximize customer satisfaction.

Integrate order and delivery systems to improve order accuracy and shorten transport time for food products and electronic goods, to customers by increasing inventory accuracy.

Deploy a more intuitive and user-friendly ERP system to reduce the amount of training required and ensure staff can learn to use the system quickly

Incorporate frequent product pricing changes due to marketing promotions run by external business partners and allies, such as a credit card provider offering cardholders special discounts if they purchase a TV that requires Union Coop Retail Corporation’s related services.
The Solution:
Increased inventory status accuracy with bar coding solution and increased the logistics management accuracy by 30%. 

Enabled faster, more efficient customer service, as retail store employees can enter and query order details for electronic goods without the help of management staff

Improved the flow of information across the company by moving to a single system to store customer orders and manage the delivery of food products and electronic goods

Minimized disruptions to process workflows by allowing staff to access historical order data logs for products other than food purchases, such as TV's and game consoles, and to correct errors in a timely manner
